History
Universal Cargo Services was established in 1987 to provide international freight and procurement services to construction, contract projects, mining & engineering companies operating throughout the South Pacific. Purchasing and freight forwarding was undertaken for major projects such as Porgera and Lihir Gold Mines, as well as supplying goods to various companies involved in the construction of the Chevron Oil Field at Kutubu in Papua New Guinea. The purchasing division of the Universal Group, Universal Distribution, has supplied major projects in the South Pacific region ranging from the construction of Jackson Airport and the Australian Chancery in Port Moresby, Gobe Oil Field, the Rabaul Airport and the upgrade to the Ramu Highway, to project supply in Malaysia and Vietnam. Universal Group moved into it’s current premises, which it fully owns, in 1987.
